Take note of our&nbsp;<strong>Overview<\/strong>&nbsp;area below to help guide you through this post\u2019s content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two ways to update your theme. The first method is our Auto Update feature which requires you to register your purchase via&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/register-your-purchase-via-token-key\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Token Registration<\/a>. The second is to upload the theme manually, either via&nbsp;FTP&nbsp;or&nbsp;WordPress. This is the traditional method and requires you to download the theme files from ThemeForest first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you update, it\u2019s best practice to always check our&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/general-update-information\/\" target=\"_blank\">Important Update Information<\/a>&nbsp;article which is updated for each new version and to make a full site&nbsp;backup&nbsp;and make a database backup. You can find details on what you need to check&nbsp;here.<\/li><li>It\u2019s also&nbsp;very important that you ensure your server limits are at the required minimums&nbsp;for the update\/theme install to complete.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"autoupdate\">Auto Update Method<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The easiest way to update your theme is to use the Envato Market Plugin Automatic Update feature, which will require you to register your product by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/register-your-purchase-via-token-key\/\" target=\"_blank\">Token Registration<\/a>. Once you have registered the product and a Phox update is released, you will receive an update notification in the&nbsp;<em>WP Dashboard &gt; Envato Market<\/em> of your installation and requires user acknowledgment to complete the update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Update Via The Auto Update Method:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-coblocks-alert is-style-warning\"><p class=\"wp-block-coblocks-alert__title\">\ud83d\udd34 <strong>IMPORTANT NOTE:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-coblocks-alert__text\">We highly recommend backing up your theme, files and database before updating.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Register your purchase by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/register-your-purchase-via-token-key\/\" target=\"_blank\">Token Registration<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Navigate to the&nbsp;<em>WP Dashboard &gt; Envato Market<\/em>&nbsp;section of your installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/auto-update-1024x572.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/auto-update-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/auto-update-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/auto-update-768x429.jpg 768w, https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/auto-update.jpg 1418w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step <\/strong>3&nbsp;\u2013 If there is an update, the plugin will notify you. and you need to click UPDATE NOW,  by clicking on&nbsp;<em>Dashboard &gt; Updates<\/em>. Before you can update manually, you have to download the theme files from ThemeForest. Continue reading below for instructions on how to download the theme files and how to upload them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/downloading-the-theme\/\" target=\"_blank\">Downloading the theme<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Update Phox Via FTP<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you update via FTP, it\u2019s important that you delete (not replace or overwrite) the old Phox theme folder.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you only overwrite the folder, then any files that were removed in the new version will remain in your site\u2019s theme files. This is because it only updates exactly matching file names. This will cause issues in the theme, including fatal errors. When you update via the WordPress admin, the folder is automatically deleted first in the installation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Log into your server using FTP and navigate to the&nbsp;<em>wp-content &gt; themes<\/em>&nbsp;folder. Here you\u2019ll find a folder called \u2018Phox\u2019.<\/li><li>Backup the \u2018Phox\u2019 theme folder by saving it to your computer. Once that\u2019s completed, you can delete it from the server. Deleting the theme files won\u2019t remove your content. Your content such as pages, options, images, and posts&nbsp;<strong>will not<\/strong>&nbsp;be lost or erased by doing this. However, any customizations to the theme\u2019s core files, such as PHP files, will be lost unless you\u2019re using a child theme.<\/li><li>Retrieve the theme files you\u2019ve just downloaded. If you\u2019ve downloaded the installable WordPress file, then you only need to extract it once to get to the \u2018Phox\u2019 folder. If you\u2019ve downloaded the Full Theme Package you must extract it once to access the secondary \u2018Phox.zip\u2019 file, and then extract the secondary \u2018Phox.zip\u2019 file to get to the \u2018Phox\u2019 folder.<\/li><li>Once extracted you can drag and drop the new Phox theme folder into the&nbsp;<em>wp-content &gt; themes<\/em>&nbsp;directory. Make sure the Phox theme folder is named&nbsp;<em>phox<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;Phox.zip.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t forget to update the&nbsp;required plugins.<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"619\" height=\"431\" class=\"wp-image-310\" style=\"width: 619px;\" src=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ftp-view-phox.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ftp-view-phox.png 619w, https:\/\/phox.whmcsdes.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ftp-view-phox-300x209.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Update Phox Via WordPress<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When you update via WordPress, your old theme folder will be deleted automatically, so you won\u2019t need to do that yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First, you need to deactivate your current Phox theme located in the&nbsp;WordPress Dashboard &gt; Appearance &gt; Themes&nbsp;section. To deactivate, simply switch to a different theme. For example, the default WordPress&#8221; twentytwenty&#8221; theme.<\/li><li>After deactivating you can go ahead and delete it. To do this, hover over the theme thumbnail then click \u2018Theme Details\u2019. In the bottom right corner of the window, click the \u2018Delete\u2019 button. Your content such as pages, options, images, and posts&nbsp;<strong>will not<\/strong>&nbsp;be lost or erased by doing this. However, any customizations to the theme\u2019s core files, such as PHP files will be lost unless you\u2019re using a child theme.<\/li><li>Retrieve the theme files you\u2019ve just downloaded. With every theme update, there\u2019s always update for the required plugin. Make sure you update the required plugin after updating the theme to ensure that you don\u2019t run into any compatibility issues. If this happens, install the theme via FTP, or contact your hosting company and ask them to increase the limit.&nbsp;<em>We recommended an upload limit of 32M.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Theme Install Failed&nbsp;<em>\u2018Destination Folder Already Exists\u2019<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be getting this error because you have a duplicate \u2018Phox\u2019 folder. This error happens because WordPress only allows you to have one theme with the same name when uploading the theme via the WordPress admin. We recommend updating the theme via the&nbsp;<a href=\"#autoupdate\">Auto Update<\/a>&nbsp;method to get around this, or you can update the theme via&nbsp;<a href=\"#manualupdate\">FTP<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We want to ensure your Phox update goes as smoothly as possible.
